Melbourne Airport
Melbourne Airport’s Commitment to Quality Airport
Service
Formerly the Tullamarine Airport,
Melbourne Airport is a primary aviation facility that is
servicing the city of Melbourne, Australia. It ranks
2nd in terms of the business like aviation and
passenger traffic. Melbourne Airport can be found adjacent to
Tullamarine suburb. It started its operation in 1970 replacing
the Essendon Airport which was also near its location. There
are actually four airports in Melbourne but Melbourne Airport
is the only international airport amongst
it.
Traveling A Very Significant Air
Route
Melbourne Airport serves the 4th most-traveled route of the world –
the Melbourne-Sydney aerial route. This air route is also the
2nd busiest passenger route in Asia-Pacific. So, you
can now imagine the significance of this aviation facility not
only in Australia but globally. Adding to the fact the
Melbourne is the most common point of entry for visitors
wanting to visit the seven major capital cities of
Australia.
Major Airline
Operators
Jetstar Airways and Tiger Airways
Australia already established headquarters and considers this
great airport as each of these airlines its home base. Other
airlines such as Qantas and Virgin Blue also have regular
operations in Melbourne Airport together with Air New Zealand,
Pacific Blue. In 2008 a number of foreign airlines entered and
introduced a number of flights like Norfolk Air, Cathay
Pacific, Air China, Malaysia Airlines, Emirates Airline, Etihad
Airways and Skywest among others.
Awards, Recognitions and Accreditation
Proved Quality Service
Just like other major international
airports like Sydney Airport, Melbourne Airport also received
an International Air Transport Associating Eagle Award in 2003
for its very good service. Melbourne Airport is also a two-time
National Tourism Award recipient for quality tourism services.
These recognitions were also confirmed by Skytrax, a
consultancy company for airlines, as it classified Melbourne
Airport as a 4-star airport. Finally, in the year 2004
Melbourne Airport became ISO 14001 compliant. ISO 14001 is an
international standard for environmental management systems.
Receiving it made Melbourne Airport the very first airport to
become accredited to ISO 14001.
Proofs of
Excellence
Aside the aforementioned awards and
recognitions, Melbourne Airport had also won several state and
nation tourism awards. To add to these, Melbourne Airport was
presented with a Service Partner Award but Singapore Airlines
in 2002 as well as a Premier Business Partner Award in 2004. To
top it, not only in terms of service that this great airport
was recognized, in 2006 was a recipient of the Australian
Construction Achievement Award in recognition for its excellent
runway widening project which was considered an outstanding
epitome of construction excellence.
Indeed, Melbourne Airport had shown commitment to passenger
satisfaction as well as airline partners. Aside from providing
excellent services and state of the art airport facilities it
also continuously strives to better its best. To prove these
commitments are the many plans for expansions of its runway to
cater to more flights to and from the area as well as its
accreditation to internationally recognized standards ISO
14001. A proof that it is not only operating just to earn
revenue but it is there primarily for services, quality
service.
